Extra virgin olive oil tastings
in Piazza Armerina

Taste the oil, discover Sicily

01

How the tasting works

Our tastings start from a simple idea: not just tasting an extra virgin olive oil, but discovering everything behind it.

Explore our land

  1. The visitors walking through the olive grove with the guide

    Among the olive trees

The experience begins at our farm, among the Roccaforte family's olive trees. As we walk together through the olive grove, we will tell you how our oil is made and share some of our secrets: from caring for the trees to harvesting the olives, through to milling and storage.

  2. The visitors in the countryside, among the farm's trees
At work on the nets during the harvest, with the red crates

    The cultivars

It is also a chance to get to know the different cultivars we grow and to understand how much the land, the climate and the olive variety can shape the character of an oil.

  3. The blue glasses and the tasting sheets on the table

    The guided tasting

The experience then continues in the heart of the historic centre of Piazza Armerina, with the guided tasting. Together we will taste some of our extra virgin olive oils, learning to recognise their aromas, intensity and characteristics.

But there is also a small challenge: a special oil is hidden among the samples. Can you tell what sets it apart from the others?

  4. A visitor tasting the oil from the blue glass

    How to taste an oil

We will show you how to taste an oil professionally, why a tasting glass is used, what to look for on the nose and on the palate and, above all, how to tell a genuine quality extra virgin olive oil from an oil with defects.

  5. The new, green oil flowing at the olive mill
The new oil in the olive mill tank

At the olive mill, in season

During the harvest, the experience can become even more complete, with the chance to see the olives being processed up close and to discover how freshly pressed oil is made. The olive oil season usually runs from late September to mid-December.

  6. The visitors at the table, during lunch at the farm

    At the table

This is when the oil meets the cuisine and flavours of our land. The tasting becomes a convivial moment, accompanied by local traditional products and dishes.

  • Green and black olives dressed with carrots, in a Sicilian ceramic bowl
  • Sun-dried tomatoes in oil, on a Sicilian ceramic plate
  • Green peppers with basil, in a white baking dish
  • Pasta with ragù and flakes of ricotta
  • A basket of almonds in their shells, with a nutcracker
  • Grilled aubergines with diced tomato and mint, on a Sicilian ceramic plate

We do not want to offer you just a guided tour, but a few hours to spend together, amid the countryside, flavours, curiosities and family stories.

Because the best way to get to know our oil is to get to know the land it comes from.
